What is endodontics?
Endodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment of root canals and periapical lesions (infections around the tip of the tooth root). Each tooth has one or more ganglia that contain a nerve, artery and vein, collectively known as the dental pulp.
When the caries process spreads to such an extent that bacteria penetrate the pulp, the pulp becomes infected, whereupon it must be removed (the so-called nerve extraction) and the tooth canal processed, disinfected and filled with biocompatible material.
